About this itinerary
This itinerary follows Tanzania’s popular Northern Safari Circuit, combining four destinations with distinct wildlife habitats and scenery. It provides families with an opportunity to experience different environments without changing destinations every day.
Tarangire introduces the family to elephants, baobab trees, and seasonal wildlife gatherings. Serengeti offers extensive game-viewing opportunities and a chance to learn about predator-prey relationships, animal migration, and life on the savannah. Ngorongoro Crater provides dramatic volcanic scenery and a high concentration of wildlife within a relatively compact area. Lake Manyara adds woodland, groundwater forest, and lakeside scenery to complete the journey.
Best suited to: couples, families, first-time safari travelers and private groups.
Itinerary
Each day has been structured to give you time for wildlife, scenery and comfortable travel between destinations.
Arusha to Tarangire National Park
After breakfast, depart for Tarangire National Park, a beautiful wildlife destination known for its large elephant herds, towering baobab trees, and varied landscapes. On arrival, begin your first full game drive.
Your guide will help the family identify animals and explain how they find food, water, and shelter. Look for elephants moving through the woodland, giraffes feeding on tree leaves, zebras grazing on open plains, and antelopes crossing the tracks. Lions and other predators also inhabit the park.
Overnight: Marera Valley Lodge
Day 2
Karatu to Serengeti National Park
Arrive in the Serengeti and begin exploring its remarkable plains.
During your game drive, search for lions resting in the grass, cheetahs scanning the plains, leopards in woodland areas, and herds of zebras and wildebeests moving across the landscape.
Overnight: Serengeti House of Nature
Day 3
Serengeti wildlife exploration
Enjoy breakfast before an early game drive or a morning wildlife excursion in the Serengeti. This is another opportunity to see animals you may have missed and revisit areas with recent sightings.
Depending on your accommodation location and the final route, continue with a game drive as you travel towards the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
Watch for wildlife across the plains and take in the dramatic scenery as the landscape changes.
Pause for lunch at a designated picnic site or arrange a meal through your accommodation provider.
Overnight: Nyikani Migration Camp
Day 4
Full Day Serengeti
Wake up to the sounds of the African wilderness and enjoy breakfast before heading out for a full day of wildlife exploration. An early start offers an opportunity to search for animals when the landscape is cool and wildlife is active.
Explore different habitats across the Serengeti, from open plains to rocky kopjes and riverine areas. Watch for lion prides, elephants, giraffes, hyenas, and other species.
Overnight: Ndutu Safari Lodge
Day 5
Serengeti to Ngorongoro Conservation Area
The morning provides another opportunity to search for wildlife before leaving the Serengeti plains.
Continue toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area with a picnic lunch along the way.
As you approach Ngorongoro, the landscape changes dramatically. Open plains give way to elevated volcanic highlands, forests and cultivated areas.
Arrive at your accommodation near the crater rim or in the Karatu area.
Spend the afternoon relaxing at your lodge or enjoying the surrounding highland scenery.
Overnight: Lion’s Paw Camp
Day 6
Lake Manyara National Park to Arusha and departure
After breakfast, travel to Lake Manyara National Park for a final wildlife adventure. The park features groundwater forest, woodland, open grasslands, and lakeshore habitats, providing a different experience from the Serengeti and Tarangire.
Enjoy breakfast at your accommodation before beginning the journey back to Arusha. Depending on your departure schedule, you might have time for a brief stop along the way or a relaxed lunch in town.
