About this itinerary
This route covers the northern circuit in six days. Tarangire gives you large elephant herds and open woodland. The Serengeti gets two nights, so you spend a full day on the plains without packing up. Ngorongoro Crater closes the trip with black rhino, hippo and lions on one crater floor.
Best suited to: couples, families, first-time safari travelers and private groups.

Tarangire National Park
Leave Arusha after breakfast. The drive to Tarangire takes about three hours. You spend the afternoon on a game drive along the Tarangire River. Look for elephants, buffalo, giraffe, zebra and wildebeest. Baobab trees, some over 1,000 years old, line the route. Lunch is a picnic in the park.

Day 3
Tarangire to the Serengeti
Start early. The route climbs through the Ngorongoro highlands and passes Olduvai Gorge, a key site in human origins research. Allow seven to eight hours with stops. Game viewing begins as you enter the Serengeti plains. Expect to see lions, hyenas, gazelles and topi before you reach camp.
